Mizuno MP22 Series: 221, 223 & 225
The new Mizuno Pro series will be available in spring 2022. Mizuno has made quite worthwhile updates without changing anything in the successful basic concept. As with the MP20 series, there is a blade, a "Multi Material" iron and a "Hollow Construction" iron. Thus, Mizuno not only covers a wide range with only three irons, but also allows to combine the irons as they are needed. Already with the MP20 series, a combo set of blade and the Hollow Construction HMB iron was very popular.
The MP20 MMC was not necessarily the most popular Mizuno iron. Many players were not 100% satisfied with the look, sound and feel. However, Mizuno did a lot right with its successor, the MP223, and took the criticism to heart. The MP20 HMB was the first Mizuno iron of this kind and basically showed very good characteristics. That means, above all, good launch conditions, relatively little spin, a lot of forgiveness and a soft feel - despite the technology behind it. However, the MP20 HMB was too big for many. And even though it looked like the Blade visually, the hitting surface, sole and topline were significantly larger - uncomfortably large for good players. Mizuno invested a lot here to pack the technology into a smaller head and they succeeded. That's why we're very sure that the new MP225 will be used primarily in long irons and even for very good players.
As for the T22 wedges, the big revolution is pretty much absent here and the wedges hardly differ from their successful predecessors. One change probably concerns the finishes. The Mizuno blue was discontinued again and replaced with a Raw Copper variant. Initial tests show extremely good spin values of the T22 wedges, even in wet conditions. A new grind, the X-Grind, was also introduced for the T22 wedges. This is very aggressive and intended primarily for good players or "hard surfaces".
