Miura CB-302 QPQ

It has taken Miura eight years to return to a fully forged cavity-back design. The forging process is anything but simple, but Miura has managed to "forge" this endeavour in the truest sense of the word. And indeed, the CB-302 represents the highest quality among cavity backs and, like everything that comes from the Japanese quality company Miura, is not only visually appealing.

The CB-302 really embodies a classic cavity back. The weight of the club is so low that it is far from a blade. Miura achieves this even without additional weight elements such as screws or tungsten inserts in the toe area or sole, which is what makes the CB-302 so classic.

The lofts of the CB-302 are comparatively strong; the 4-iron for example has 22 degrees. Therefore, it is recommended to add a gap wedge between 48 and 50 degrees.

Miura QPQ: A very special finish

Miura clubs are characterised by two fundamental elements: Aesthetics and feel. These core attributes extend to a broader range of performance, including consistency and durability, which together add to the appeal for Miura enthusiasts. Some of Miura's iron offerings, such as the CB-302, now feature a distinctive QPQ finish. This special finish is achieved through an intricate process that preserves the signature Miura feel, sound and performance.

Miura's QPQ finish is a black surface layer on the club head that is durable but develops into a patina over time. Importantly, the QPQ finish does not affect the quality, durability or performance of Miura irons. It was introduced to accommodate players who prefer the visual appearance of black iron clubheads by adding depth to the clubhead.

A critical aspect in the manufacture of Miura golf clubs is ensuring consistent clubhead weights, for which Miura is renowned. When the finish is changed, the club head weight is affected. The QPQ finish is marginally heavier than the Satin finish. Therefore, the club head of a QPQ iron must weigh approximately three grams less than a standard head to ensure the same consistency and performance. This weight tolerance adjustment is built into the 14-step manufacturing process.

Ultimately, the choice for the QPQ finish is based on aesthetic preference. If a player prefers the design and style of a black iron clubhead, QPQ is the right choice. The feel, performance and sound of the irons should remain the same as the satin finish, and the tight manufacturing tolerances remain.
